A strong 1P vibration means the rotor is out of balance: one blade is heavier or set at a different angle.","3P":"Three times per rotor turn: each time a blade passes the tower. Normal, but it must not meet the tower's own swing frequency.","BPFO":"Ball pass frequency, outer race: how often the rolling elements pass one point of the bearing's outer ring. A peak there means damage on that ring.","RMS":"Root mean square: the average strength of a vibration over a frequency band. Condition monitoring compares it with fixed zone limits.","VDI 3834":"German guideline (VDI 3834 Part 1) for judging vibration of onshore wind turbines with gearboxes. It sets two limits per component: watch and act.","P72":"Chance that the part fails within the next 72 hours, from the damage trend and the load the forecast wind will put on it.","cut-out":"The turbine stops when the 10-minute mean wind at hub height passes 25 m/s or a gust passes 32 m/s, and restarts below 22 m/s.","high-wind ride-through":"A storm mode: instead of stopping at 25 m/s the turbine lowers its power step by step and keeps running up to 30 m/s.","curtailment":"Lowering output on purpose: when the grid cannot take the power (redispatch) or the market price is negative.","redispatch":"The grid operator orders power plants to lower or raise output to relieve an overloaded line. In Germany wind farms are curtailed this way when the north produces more than the lines to the south can carry.","negative price":"When supply exceeds demand the day-ahead price can fall below zero. Under § 51 EEG, wind farms in direct marketing then lose their market premium, so they usually curtail.","air density":"Denser air carries more energy. Cold, dry, high-pressure air raises the output at partial load; warm, humid air lowers it.","icing":"Ice on the blades changes their shape: the turbine makes less power, vibrates, and may stop to avoid throwing ice.","wake":"Behind a turbine the wind is slower and more turbulent. Turbines downwind in a farm make less power.","yaw":"Turning the nacelle into the wind. If it points beside the wind, the rotor catches less of it.","pitch":"Turning each blade around its own axis to control power. All three blades must have the same angle.","gear mesh":"How often the gear teeth meet. Tooth damage shows as a peak there with side peaks.","AEP":"Annual energy production: the energy a turbine makes in one year.","MWh":"Megawatt hour: 1,000 kWh. A 4.2 MW turbine at full power makes 4.2 MWh in one hour.","hub height":"Height of the rotor centre above ground, here 125 m."},"notes":["The fleet, its faults, crews and depots are fictional and for demonstration. Weather in “Live forecast” is real: DWD MOSMIX via Bright Sky. Costs are real-world German prices for 2024–2026 (sources below).","Power: generic 4.2 MW turbine, power curve at 1.225 kg/m³, corrected for the actual air density from temperature, pressure and humidity (IEC 61400-12-1 method). Wakes: Jensen model with each farm's layout.","Power curve lines: a healthy turbine scatters around its curve because the 10-minute wind is measured with about 0.3 m/s scatter and the power by about 2.5 %. Inner lines ±2σ (95 % of healthy values), outer lines ±3σ (99.7 %). Many points beyond them mean a fault.","Vibration zones follow VDI 3834-1 for the gearbox (3.5 and 5.6 mm/s); other limits are set the same way and are illustrative. Fault frequencies come from the drivetrain geometry.","Failure chance: 400 simulated futures of the damage growth, driven by the forecast load. Doing nothing is compared over 3 months.","Costs: technician €115/h with travel time (industrial service price lists 2025/26: €102–186/h), van and courier €1.10/km, large crawler crane about €100k per job (Nordex: €8k a day plus €25k–80k mobilisation) and 2–4 weeks to get one, gearbox about €530k (WindGuard turbine price × gearbox share), main-bearing exchange €200k–360k (EPRI), up-tower HSS bearing about €18k (Wind Systems), leading-edge repair about €32k a turbine (CORDIS). Lost energy at €74/MWh, the 2025 market value of onshore wind; yearly yield from full-load hours (coast 3,200 h, north 2,500 h, low mountains 1,800 h; Fraunhofer ISE). No published price: pitch check, balancing, yaw check and alignment are a technician day plus the measurement (proxy).","Routes: fastest path on a simplified network of motorways and federal roads, with local roads to the farm; average van speeds 100, 75 and 50 km/h including typical traffic. Not live traffic.","Prices are modelled from the fleet's wind, the sun and the time of day; they are not market prices.
